SCHOOL SYSTEMS
Three students went to Canada for one month. Here is what they think about school in Canada. There are also different things they would like to change in the French school system :
From Léa :
In October I went to
Canada for one month. Canadian Highschools are very different from
French Highschools. For example, they are allowed to eat, drink and
use their phones during the class. School always ends at 3 :25
pm which is awesome because sometimes in France school ends at 6:00
o’clock. In a schoolday, they only have four classes besides they
can choose courses like cooking or art which we don’t have in
France. They don’t have to choose a section like scientific or
literature. In Canada I noticed that teachers were less strict than
in France. To finish, sport in Canadian Highschools takes a big place
in their everyday life because it teaches you to work in team.
I reckon that that
the Canadian system is better than in France because students become
independent easily however the french system has some good points
too. If I could change something instead of our three sections I will
let students choose what classes they would like to study. It would
be awesome if we could choose classes like art, cooking or music. I
would like to change the duration of classes because they have more
time to do more activites after school than us.
From Amélie :
My
amazing trip to Canada (Jasper, a little town between the mountains)
I
can see a lot of differences between school in Canada and in France.
Indeed, the time
table
is better than in France because they begin at 8:35am in
the
morning and the day is done at 3:25pm in the
afternoon. Contrary
to the French school they are more involved in the sport life of
their school: basketball, volleyball. The students have all weekend
approximately 3 or 4 months tournament. My exchange and her sister
were both in the volleyball team called “Chargers” and in the
basketball team. Then they can choose what they want for courses:
food, art, makeup or dressmaking with some required courses. Contrary
to France they haven’t got
a
canteen for lunch but some students take food from home and eat in
the lunchroom or buy something to eat in the little cafeteria of the
high school. They have more freedom for example they can come later
in their first course or just stay sleeping at home if they would,
they can use their
phone
in class too when
the teacher is speaking. And they make
a lot of interactive quizzes
before their test. Finally, they drive
to go home
because they can drive alone at 16 years old but some take the school
bus provided
by
the government.
Then
let’s talk about what or which things want I to change in the
French system. Maybe can we do
something for the timetable
and
reorganize the
sections
so students can choose what they want. In Canada they have fewer
holidays but they can be more attentive because they have shorter
days at school and they prefer pastimes
outside with friends, during the week they can do
different
sports to represent their school. And we can maybe be
more flexible with students. I think that teachers are closer to
students and it could be less stressful.
But they have less homework than us because they have the
same
courses all the day during one trimester.
ESPECIALLY FOR YOU !
We really appreciated the two videos where two Greek students explain the origins of two important Greek celebrations and we understood them quite well. We get it : you know how to say NO !!! We were also impressed by the different performances. We do not have this kind of celebrations in French schools.
Here is our way to say "thank you for this collaboration" ;-) And MERRY CHRISTMAS !
- Students speaking about their favourite movies :
1) Thomas speaking about BACK TO THE FUTURE
Hi
everyone! I’m here to talk about the best movie trilogy called Back
to the Future, especially one of my
favourite moment and the main character Marty McFly. For me, the best
of the three movies is the second because Marty and Doc, who created
the first time machine and said all the time “Great Scott!”, make
a great leap to the year 2015 with their emblematic car, the
DeLorean.
I
love the character of Marty McFly because anyone can identify to him,
indeed he is a bit lazy, likes to spend his time playing the guitar or
with his girlfriend. But in fact, he’s a real dare devil and he
never gives up even he faces danger.
I
love the scene where McFly is in 2015 because it’s very funny to
see the imagination of the movie writers like the flying cars or
the hoverboard (don’t tell me that hoverboards exist, the
board with two wheels isn’t one for me, it’s just a useless
thing!). They dreamed about many insane things, but one exists:
the Nike Air of Marty which is very expensive nowadays. Our 2015 is
totally different from the movie.
If you’re bored during the week-end, jump on the
trilogy and watch it, there are funny moments as badass moments.
After watching it, you will say Great Scott during your English
lesson.
2) Théo speaking about DEMAIN
My favorite film is Demain produced by Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent. Actually it’s not
really a movie but rather a report speaking about how some people all around the world
found ecological solutions and how they apply them. The two producers and the
cameramen traveled to many countries like Sweden, Denmark, the USA, or India to ask
questions to the people who have changed their lives from a consumer society to a
sustainable way of life in which they respect humans and the planet. Through the answers of these
people we learn that we can do many little things each day to reduce our ecological impact
like using a bike to go to school, making our own vegetable garden without any pesticides,
not using chemical or industrial products, or using renewable energies. They also met
some “mini societies” or small groups of people living in a alternative way which have their
own sort of administration, educational system, vegetable gardens, money, etc. After seeing
this film I changed some little things in my daily life because now I know that is very easy to
do. I really like this type of documentaries which are quite optimistic and show us that an
eco-friendly life is possible instead of the one which just makes us feel guilty : it shows us the
solution not the problem. I absolutely recommend it !!

- Dounia's passion for music
Music has been my passion for almost 10 years. I started when I was 7 years old.
I first did a year of music theory and then I started playing the flute.
Over the years, I learned alone to play the piano, the guitar (classical,
electric and bass), a little bit of ukulele, drums and xylophone.
Every week I have about four hours of lessons at the ''Conservatoire
de musique'': two hours of music theory, one hour of orchestra and
one hour of flute. But sometimes I have a few more hours because I
have rehearsals to prepare concerts or auditions. In june, I have to
take two exams, one of music theory and one of flute. If I succeed,
I will have a degree. I'm a little stressed, but it will be my 5th
exam, so I know how to prepare well. What I like the most is doing
concerts with other musicians, during the rehearsals, there is always
a good atmoshpere, we laugh together, we share our passion, it's
really great. What I would like a lot is to learn how to play other
instruments like the cello, but most of all, I would like to play the saxophone.
Dounia and Sofia (from the Greek school) talked about their passion for music and Sofia had to choose a song for Dounia and so did Dounia for Sofia.
Here is Sofia playing the flute :
"The music I played on flute is sung by a man named Dionisis Tsaknis. This song is about growing up, being more mature, not listening to the old ones but looking to the future of the world and correcting the mistakes that can be made during life or those of the past. "
